The Pride of the City

TournamentPass1965.jpg

The BPW Hoosiers started as a team of 16, but quickly became the pride of the city.

In 1960 they were invited to represent the region in the United States Women's Slow Pitch Tournament in Richmond, Virginia. The youngest team in the competition, the BPW Hoosiers travelled by train, a first for many of the players.

By 1961, the year of the first Women's World Slow Pitch Softball Tournament, the BPW Hoosiers had been winning the Louisville City tournaments and dominating Kentuckiana softball. In 1962 they won the Louisville Metro Tournament and, with it, the right to represent the Louisville area in the World Tournament in Cincinnati.

Between 1962 and 1968 the BPW Hoosiers played in six out of eight World Tournaments. In September of 1964 they competed against 28 of the best teams in the nation. They scored five victories, including three shutouts, finishing fourth place.
