BPW Hoosiers, 1959

While working for the New Albany Parks Department, Letty Walter introduced the game of slow-pitch softball to children at area parks. She soon noticed several girls who showed exceptional ability and enthusiasm for the sport. In 1957 Letty recruited them to form Floyd County’s first all-star girls’ softball team, the BPW Hoosiers. With support from Sam Peden of the Parks Department and the Business and Professional Women's Club of New Albany, the team quickly became one of the best in the nation.
